Sicily Yacht Charter

Sicily offers a very different charter experience from northern Italy: volcanic islands, dramatic coastlines, powerful food culture, and fewer yachts overall. This is a destination for guests who value character, space, and authenticity over pure glitz.

If Sardinia is polished glamour, Sicily is raw, soulful luxury—with exceptional cruising when planned properly.

Best Time to Charter a Yacht in Sardinia: The yacht charter season in Sicily runs from May to October, with June and September offering the best balance of warm water, good conditions, and fewer crowds. July and August are hot and lively, while May and October suit quieter, culture-focused cruising.

Key Cruising Locations: The yacht charter season in Sicily runs from May to October, with June and September offering the best balance of warm water, good conditions, and fewer crowds. July and August are hot and lively, while May and October suit quieter, culture-focused cruising.

Don’t Miss: Panarea for chic island nightlife, Stromboli for night cruising beneath an active volcano, Salina for relaxed luxury and food, and Taormina for historic towns and views over Mount Etna.

How to Get There: Most crewed yacht charters start near Catania (CTA) for easy access to the Aeolian Islands, or Palermo (PMO) for north-coast routes. Both airports have direct European flights and easy connections via Rome or Milan.

Why Charter a Yacht in Sicily?

1. The Aeolian Islands are unlike anywhere else in Italy

We rate the Aeolian Islands as one of the most distinctive cruising grounds in the Med: active volcanoes, deep-water anchorages, black-sand beaches, and night passages where the scenery changes hour by hour. This is experiential cruising, not postcard hopping.

2. Under the radar and less crowded than mainland Italy

Even in high season, Sicily sees far fewer charter yachts than Sardinia, the Amalfi Coast, or the South of France. That means easier anchorages, quieter towns, and a charter that feels private rather than choreographed.

3. Food and wine country

Sicily is a destination where we plan charters around markets, local fishermen, and regional wines. Guests come here to eat exceptionally well—both onboard with a strong chef and selectively ashore in places that are about substance, not scene.

Panarea - Aeolian Islands, Sicily

Aeolian Islands (North of Sicily)

The star of Sicilian yacht chartering: Lipari, Panarea, Stromboli, Salina, Vulcano, Filicudi, Alicudi. Volcanic landscapes, black-sand beaches, and deep-blue anchorages.

Ancient Greek Amphi theater and mt Etna in Taormina, Sicily, Italy

Taormina & the East Coast

Iconic scenery beneath Mount Etna, dramatic cliffs, and historic towns. More exposed, best combined with the Aeolian Islands rather than standalone cruising.

Palermo in Sicily, Italy

Palermo & the North Coast

Cultural, historic, and underexplored by yachts. Longer distances, better suited to larger yachts and longer charters.

Unique 8-day Sicily & Aeolian Islands Yacht Charter Itinerary

This 8-day loop is for guests who want Sicily’s cultural depth plus the Aeolians’ volcanic islands in one charter.

It’s not a beach circuit. It’s a route built around active geology, clear island character, and efficient yachting—so the week feels substantial, not repetitive.

Best Yacht Type for a Sicily Yacht Charter

Crewed motor yachts (our top recommendation)

For Sicily, we most often recommend mid-to-large crewed motor yachts. Distances are longer, cruising is more exposed, and conditions can change quickly—motor yachts offer the range, speed, and stability that keep itineraries flexible, especially around the Aeolian Islands.

Performance sailing yachts (for true sailors)

Sicily works well for guests who genuinely want to sail. A well-crewed performance sailing yacht can be excellent here, particularly in the Aeolians, but this is a choice driven by sailing preference, not convenience.

Catamarans (possible, but selective)

Catamarans do operate in Sicily, but they are far less common than elsewhere in Italy. We only recommend them for Aeolian-focused itineraries, with the right crew and conservative routing. This is not a destination where we default to cats.

Why yacht choice matters more in Sicily

Compared to Sardinia or the Amalfi Coast, Sicily involves open-water legs, deeper anchorages, and more wind exposure. Choosing the right yacht directly affects comfort, access, and how much of the itinerary you can realistically enjoy.

How Much Does a Crewed Yacht Charter in Sicily Cost?

Sicily is not a budget charter destination, but it is generally less commercially inflated than Sardinia or the Amalfi Coast.

In real terms, our Sicily charters typically cost:

  • €60,000–€180,000+ per week for quality crewed motor yachts
  • €45,000–€80,000 per week for larger, well-crewed sailing yachts

Plus expenses (APA), usually 25–35% of the charter fee, depending on fuel, cruising range, and wine selection.

Guests chartering in Sicily typically:

  • Prioritise space, crew quality, and food
  • Spend on excellent onboard provisioning and local wines
  • Dine ashore and visit vineyards

We’ll advise clearly on what budget fits Sicily best, and whether this destination matches your expectations.
