A crewed motor yacht is the default choice in Italy, and for good reason. This coast is a string of towns you actually want to arrive at: Positano, Capri, Porto Cervo, Portofino. A motor yacht gets you there quickly, berths in the middle of them, and keeps everyone comfortable on the way.

The Italian fleet is deep at every size, from 24m boats that suit a family week on the Amalfi Coast to 40m-plus yachts with full crew, tenders, and a garage of toys.

Why Charter a Motor Yacht in Italy?

  • Built for port-to-port weeks: Italy is about arriving somewhere new most days, and speed makes that easy
  • Comfort in any conditions: stabilizers, air conditioning, and volume a sailing boat cannot match
  • Berths where you want them: the marinas on this coast are built for motor yachts, so evenings are spent in town
  • The deepest fleet in Italy: more choice at every size and budget than any other yacht type

Broker insight

The mistake we correct most often is a first-time client picking the wrong yacht type for a marina-heavy route, then losing days to it. Italy is a port-to-port country: Amalfi and the Costa Smeralda are about arriving somewhere new, tying up in town, and going ashore for dinner. That is what a motor yacht is built for, and we would rather have that conversation before you book than after.

How Much Does a Motor Yacht Charter in Italy Cost?

Motor yacht charters in Italy fall into three bands: under €100,000 per week for entry to mid-range crewed yachts, under €300,000 for the core luxury segment, and €500,000 and up for the largest, which overlap with our superyacht category. On top of the weekly charter fee, budget for:

  • APA: 25-30% for fuel, food, drinks, and port fees
  • Italian VAT: 22% on the charter fee
  • Crew gratuity: 5-15%, based on service

Where to Go on a Motor Yacht Charter in Italy

The Amalfi Coast is the classic week: Naples, Capri, Positano, and Ischia within short hops, with a berth in town most nights. Sardinia is the summer scene, running the Costa Smeralda and La Maddalena and often across to Corsica. Sicily and the Aeolian Islands stay quieter, with volcanic anchorages and far fewer boats.

People Also Ask

Why are motor yachts the default in Italy?

Because Italian itineraries are port-to-port. Amalfi, Capri, and the Costa Smeralda involve short hops and marina nights rather than long passages, and a motor yacht handles that with speed, stabilizers, and volume.

How much does a motor yacht charter in Italy cost?

Under €100,000 per week at the entry to mid range, under €300,000 for the core luxury segment, and €500,000 and up for the largest. Add APA, 22% Italian VAT, and gratuity. See our Italy cost guide.

What is APA and how much should we budget?

The Advance Provisioning Allowance covers fuel, food, drinks, and port fees, and on a motor yacht fuel is the biggest line. We explain it fully in our Italy APA guide.

Motor yacht or catamaran for Italy?

For marina-heavy routes and covering distance, the motor yacht. For time at anchor and more space per euro, the catamaran. See our catamaran vs motor yacht guide.

When should we book?

For July and August, nine to twelve months ahead: the best yachts and the prime Amalfi and Sardinia weeks go first. June and September stay open longer and cost less.
